October's unemployment numbers were released this morning. Florida's 6.0 percent unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since June 2008.
Florida's unemployment rate was down 0.1 percent from September 2014 and down 0.7 percent from October of 2013. Jesse Panuccio of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity says it was a strong month for the Bay area.
"The Tampa region is really mirroring and leading the state as a whole in terms of seeing increasing job growth and decreasing unemployment," Panuccio said. "You have 44,908 unique job openings, that's the top area for the state in terms of job openings. So you're really leading the state in terms of job demand, so I think, Tampa, the Tampa area has a lot to be excited about in terms of the economic picture."
The U.S. unemployment rate for October was 5.8 percent, just the fourth time in 18 months that the national rate was lower than Florida's.
